The TransCanada natural gas pipelines cross 48 lakes, rivers, creeks, and wetlands in the Temagami area. TransCanada proposes to convert one of these pipelines to carry diluted bitumen (tar sands oil) from Alberta to New Brunswick. These pipelines have ruptured in Temagami in the past. An oil spill would have devastating impacts on Temagami's environment and tourism industry. FOT has applied to intervene in the National Energy Board’s hearings on the Energy East proposal.
