Energy East Is Dead; Long Live Temagami’s Waters!

The Energy East pipeline proposal has been abandoned.

The project would have converted existing natural gas pipelines to carry high-pressure tar sands bitumen from Alberta to New Brunswick, but has been terminated.

Many communities, non-profits, environmental organizations and individuals opposed the Energy East pipeline. Friends of Temagami participated in consultations as intervenors with the National Energy Board.

The pipeline would have crossed 48 waterbodies in the Temagami area. Pipelines have ruptured in Temagami in the past.

Special thanks goes out to former vice-president Josh Ginsberg and past president Bob Olajos for their work opposing Energy East.
